In celebration of the International Day of Women in Maritime, the Women in Maritime Philippines (WIMAPHIL) is holding a maritime forum today, May 18, at the Manila Prince Hotel carrying the theme, “Voices of Resilient Women in Maritime in the Face of Global Uncertainty.”
The event gathers women leaders, maritime professionals, government officials, and stakeholders to discuss the important role of women in the maritime industry and the challenges they continue to face amid global uncertainties.
Among the guests are Sonia Malaluan, Administrator of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), and Emelita Valdeavilla, Chairperson of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW).

The forum also features discussions on gender mainstreaming in the maritime sector, industry challenges, policy outlooks, and advocacy efforts promoting women’s visibility and participation in maritime operations and leadership.
Topics include “Why Gender Mainstreaming Matters: Challenges and Gaps in the Maritime Sector,” “From Commitment to Action: Best Practices in Gender Mainstreaming,” “Policy and Industry Outlook,” and “Advocacy and Visibility – Women Stories Facing Diverse Adversities.”
Several maritime organizations, manning agencies, training centers, and maritime institutions are also expected to participate in support of women empowerment and inclusivity within the industry.
