Sweden Confiscates Cargo Vessel “Caffa” Over Suspected Illegal Transport
Swedish authorities have officially confiscated the cargo vessel Caffa after weeks of investigation over suspected illegal transport activities linked to ongoing geopolitical tensions. The vessel was initially seized in early March after authorities received intelligence that it may have been involved in transporting stolen Ukrainian grain.
The 96-meter vessel was intercepted in Swedish waters while reportedly heading toward St. Petersburg. Armed police and coast guard units boarded the ship during the operation. Authorities also raised concerns that the vessel was operating under a false flag, which is a serious violation of maritime regulations.

Investigations revealed that one crew member is now facing charges related to violations of maritime law, including the use of forged documents and breaches of ship safety rules. Reports indicate that most of the crew are Russian nationals, adding further tension to the case given the wider conflict in the region.
Swedish prosecutors confirmed that the vessel will remain under government control while legal proceedings continue. The confiscation followed a request for legal assistance from another country, although authorities did not disclose which nation made the request.
