Body Recovered from Capsized Cargo Vessel “Mariana” Finally Identified. 5 crew still missing.

The body recovered from the overturned cargo vessel Mariana has now been identified, while search operations continue for five other missing crew members following the tragic maritime incident near the Northern Mariana Islands.

According to reports, the recovered victim was identified as crew member Chet Brochon after confirmation from the family and local authorities. Divers earlier retrieved the body from inside the capsized vessel during underwater operations conducted by rescue teams.

The Mariana, a former offshore support vessel converted into a cargo ship, reportedly encountered serious trouble while sailing during the approach of Typhoon Sinlaku last month. Reports said the vessel experienced starboard engine failure before communication with the crew was eventually lost. Its AIS signal also stopped transmitting around the same period.

After several days of search operations, authorities located an overturned vessel believed to be the Mariana near Pagan Island. Rescue teams also discovered debris and a partially inflated liferaft in the area, increasing concerns about the fate of the remaining crew members.

US Coast Guard divers, together with international rescue units, continued underwater inspections around the wreck while difficult sea conditions and strong currents affected operations. Officials confirmed that five crew members remain missing as authorities continue monitoring nearby waters for possible signs of survivors.
