The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and MARINO PH formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Thursday at the DMW Central Office, establishing a digital partnership aimed at strengthening information sharing and enhancing support for Filipino seafarers around the world.
The partnership seeks to improve the delivery of timely, accurate, and verified information while promoting seafarer protection and welfare through closer collaboration on information dissemination, welfare monitoring, assistance, mental health and psychosocial support, and faster coordination during emergencies and crisis situations.
During the signing ceremony, DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac emphasized that the collaboration would help the government better understand and address the concerns of Filipino seafarers, particularly those serving onboard ships and away from their families. He recognized Marino PH as an important communication bridge that can relay the realities experienced by seafarers directly to the government, helping strengthen programs and services for their welfare.
Marino PH Founder Dr. Reno B. Bolivar highlighted the organization’s commitment to connecting government agencies, maritime stakeholders, and the seafaring community. He noted that while Marino PH was established to amplify the voices of Filipino seafarers, the platform now also serves as a channel that brings together the voices of government, industry, and labor. Through the partnership, he said, stakeholders will have a stronger platform for reporting concerns and coordinating initiatives that promote the welfare and protection of Filipino seafarers.
