A Ukrainian maritime drone exploded in Romania’s Black Sea port of Constanța on June 5 after reportedly losing control during an operational mission, prompting renewed concerns over the risks posed by the ongoing conflict in the region. Authorities confirmed that no injuries or significant damage were reported following the incident.

According to Ukrainian naval officials, the unmanned surface vessel was operating in the Black Sea when it encountered electronic interference that disrupted its navigation systems. Ukraine stated that the drone was affected by Russian electronic warfare measures, causing it to drift off course before reaching Romanian waters. After losing control, the drone eventually detonated near a berth within Constanța harbor.

Romanian authorities said they were notified in advance by Ukraine regarding the situation, allowing emergency responders to take precautionary measures. Local officials evacuated nearby areas and restricted access around the port while military and security personnel assessed the threat. The area was later declared safe following the explosion.

Romanian President Nicușor Dan described the incident as a consequence of the ongoing war in Ukraine, emphasizing that regional security continues to be affected by military activities in the Black Sea. Romanian officials also reported that several other Ukrainian drones experienced similar navigation failures on the same day, with some detonating offshore without causing harm.
