The Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) has confirmed the location of a sea mine near the Strait of Hormuz, prompting renewed safety warnings for vessels transiting one of the world’s busiest maritime routes. While the strait remains open, authorities continue to advise ships to avoid the main international shipping lane as mine clearance operations remain underway.
According to JMIC, the confirmed mine is located close to the recommended southern transit route near the coast of Oman. Mariners have been advised to use the southern route through Omani territorial waters, which has been confirmed to be clear of mines, while avoiding the International Traffic Separation Scheme where mine risks remain.

Shipping organizations have also urged vessel operators to remain cautious as military forces continue mine clearance activities in the area. Congestion is expected along the alternative transit routes, and naval authorities may contact vessels to help manage safe passage through the strait.

The advisory comes as commercial traffic gradually returns to the Strait of Hormuz following months of regional conflict. Despite the reopening of the route, maritime security conditions remain uncertain as clearance efforts continue and authorities monitor the situation closely.
