China has launched a new coast guard patrol east of Taiwan, replacing an earlier task force that had operated in the area and drawn objections from Taiwan as well as concern from several Western countries. Chinese authorities said the patrol will conduct law enforcement operations and strengthen regular enforcement activities in waters that Beijing considers to be under its jurisdiction.

Taiwan responded by deploying coast guard vessels to monitor the Chinese ships and stated that it would take appropriate measures if its waters were challenged. Taiwanese officials reiterated that China has no legal authority to exercise law enforcement in the waters surrounding Taiwan and instructed local vessels not to comply with any inspection or boarding requests from Chinese coast guard ships.

The latest deployment marks the second Chinese coast guard operation east of Taiwan within about a month, adding to tensions in the region. The renewed patrol follows China's earlier objections to planned maritime boundary discussions between Japan and the Philippines, which Beijing claims involve waters connected to its territorial claims around Taiwan.

The maritime dispute has attracted international attention, with the United States, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom expressing concern over recent developments. Observers have noted that continued coast guard operations in the area could further increase diplomatic tensions and raise concerns over freedom of navigation and regional stability.

Both China and Taiwan continue to maintain opposing claims over sovereignty and jurisdiction in the waters surrounding the island. While Beijing considers Taiwan and its surrounding waters to be part of its territory, Taiwan rejects those claims and maintains that it has full authority over its own territorial waters.
