Ukraine has reported that its naval drone forces struck two large Russia-linked oil tankers in the Black Sea, in what Ukrainian authorities described as part of ongoing operations targeting maritime assets associated with Russia's oil transport network. The reported attack marks another escalation in the maritime dimension of the conflict between the two countries.

According to Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) and Navy, the vessels identified as Louise 1 and Banda were targeted during the operation. Ukrainian officials stated that both tankers were under Ukrainian sanctions and had been transporting Russian crude oil from ports in the Black and Baltic Seas.

Preliminary vessel-tracking data indicated that the Banda was later listed as "not under command," a status that may indicate the ship was unable to maneuver due to exceptional circumstances. Meanwhile, the Louise 1 was reported to remain underway under its own power. The extent of the damage and the operational condition of both vessels have not been independently verified.

The reported strike comes amid an intensified Ukrainian campaign using naval drones against Russia-linked shipping, including tankers, cargo vessels, and support ships operating in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov. Ukrainian authorities said these operations are intended to disrupt maritime logistics that support Russia\'s energy exports and military activities.

The latest incident underscores the continuing security risks facing commercial navigation in the Black Sea, where military operations have increasingly affected maritime traffic and regional trade. Shipping companies and maritime stakeholders continue to closely monitor developments as the conflict remains a significant concern for vessel safety and freedom of navigation in one of the world\'s key shipping corridors.
