A merchant vessel successfully completed its transit through the Red Sea under the close protection of the Italian Navy frigate ITS Bergamini, operating as part of the European Union Naval Force (EUNAVFOR) Operation ASPIDES. The escort mission was carried out to help ensure the safe passage of commercial shipping through one of the world's busiest and most strategically significant maritime corridors.

According to EUNAVFOR ASPIDES, the merchant vessel safely navigated the area while under the frigate's protection. The mission forms part of the European Union's defensive maritime security operation, which was established to safeguard freedom of navigation and protect merchant shipping from security threats in the Red Sea and nearby waters. The Red Sea serves as a vital maritime route connecting Europe and Asia through the Suez Canal, carrying a substantial portion of global seaborne trade. Continued naval escort operations by international forces are considered important in maintaining the safety of seafarers, protecting cargo, and ensuring the resilience of global supply chains despite ongoing regional tensions.

Maritime authorities continue to encourage shipowners, operators, and masters to remain vigilant while transiting the Red Sea and to comply with current maritime security guidance and best management practices. As security conditions in the region continue to evolve, international naval cooperation remains a key component in supporting the safe and secure movement of merchant vessels through this critical waterway.
