The maritime community gathered at the Philippine Coast Guard National Headquarters in Manila on September 20, 2026, for the opening of the 31st National Seafarers’ Day and the 27th National Maritime Week.

The observance began with a Holy Mass and Ecumenical Service led by Most Rev. Ruperto C. Santos, Bishop of Antipolo. In his homily, Bishop Santos reflected on this year’s theme, “Marinong Filipino: Matatag sa Alon, Matibay sa Hamon,” and encouraged Filipino seafarers to remain strengthened by faith, sustained by the love of their families, and protected by God.

The solemn gathering continued with the Rite of Remembrance aboard the BRP Balangay at the PCG Wharf along Manila Bay. Participants joined a symbolic wreath-laying and prayer offering in memory of Filipino seafarers who had passed away or were lost at sea.
