The Philippine Maritime Convention 2026 (PhilMarCon 2026) brought together key stakeholders from the maritime sector to discuss policies, programs, and initiatives aimed at strengthening the country’s maritime workforce and addressing the changing demands of the global shipping industry. Held on September 22–23 at The Manila Hotel, the convention gathered representatives from government agencies, maritime organizations, industry leaders, labor groups, maritime education institutions, and other sector partners.

Carrying the theme “Sailing Forward: The Philippines as the Global Leader in Seafarers’ Welfare, Protection and Maritime Excellence,” the event served as a venue for discussions on seafarer welfare, protection mechanisms, maritime education and training, workforce development, and industry cooperation. Discussions during the convention focused on creating stronger partnerships and ensuring that policies and programs remain responsive to the needs of maritime professionals while maintaining the country’s maritime standards.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. attended the second day of PhilMarCon 2026, where he reaffirmed the government’s support for Filipino seafarers and recognized their contribution to the global maritime community. The President highlighted the importance of continuing efforts that promote the welfare and advancement of maritime professionals while preparing them for developments affecting the international shipping sector.

The convention also emphasized the growing need for cooperation among government, employers, labor organizations, and maritime institutions in addressing issues affecting Filipino seafarers. Stakeholders discussed the importance of strengthening systems related to training, regulation, welfare support, and workforce preparation amid changes brought by technology, environmental requirements, and evolving global maritime standards.

PhilMarCon 2026 provided an opportunity for maritime stakeholders to exchange perspectives, review current priorities, and identify areas where collaboration can further support the Philippine maritime workforce. The participation of government and industry representatives reflected continued coordination among different sectors involved in maritime development, with discussions centered on supporting the career growth, protection, and preparedness of Filipino seafarers serving around the world.

The two-day convention highlighted the shared responsibility of various maritime sectors in developing a competitive and sustainable workforce.
