Swedish prosecutors have charged the master and pilot of the Norwegian cargo vessel Misje Verde following a fatal collision with a pleasure boat near Tjörn, Sweden. The incident happened on July 28, 2026, in Hakefjord, southwest of Gothenburg.

Four people were onboard the pleasure boat when it was struck by the cargo vessel. An adult and a child survived, while another adult and child died. The smaller boat later sank in about 20 meters of water.

The master and pilot were charged with causing death through negligence, causing bodily injury through negligence, and negligence in maritime traffic. Both have denied wrongdoing. Investigators reviewed data from the ship’s Voyage Data Recorder, including radar information, bridge audio, and navigation records.

Prosecutors said the case involves possible failures to maintain a proper lookout and to keep clear while overtaking, as required under international collision regulations. The case is expected to go to trial on September 10, 2026.
