The Philippines and Norway have reaffirmed their longstanding maritime partnership following a meeting between Norwegian Ambassador Christian Halaas Lyster and officials of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), led by Administrator Sonia B. Malaluan.

The meeting highlighted decades of cooperation between the two countries in the maritime sector. Norway’s partnership with the Philippines has provided employment opportunities for Filipino seafarers, supported maritime education and training, and strengthened cooperation within the international shipping industry.

The Association of Licensed Manning Agencies (ALMA Maritime Group) also recently issued a board resolution expressing appreciation for Norway’s role as a maritime partner. The group cited Norway’s support for ethical manning practices, seafarer welfare, due process, and its continued confidence in Filipino maritime professionals.

As Ambassador Lyster prepares to conclude his posting in the Philippines this month, both sides expressed their commitment to continuing Philippine-Norwegian maritime cooperation. Future efforts are expected to focus on safer and greener shipping, maritime education, seafarer development, and sustainable maritime operations.
