Ukraine has attacked the Nefrit, a small service vessel reportedly involved in repair work at the Caspian Pipeline Consortium’s oil terminal in the Black Sea. Ukraine’s Naval Forces said a sea drone struck the vessel near the Russian port of Sochi, with an explosion and smoke reported near the ship. The full extent of the damage remains unclear.

The Nefrit had reportedly nearly completed repair work on one offshore mooring and was expected to replace equipment at another. The attack could delay the scheduled maintenance and potentially affect future crude-loading operations at the terminal.

Ukraine said the vessel supported oil and gas operations by maintaining offshore facilities, transporting personnel and cargo, and carrying out underwater technical work. The Caspian Pipeline Consortium’s press office declined to comment on the activities of contractors working at the terminal.

The CPC terminal serves as a major export route for crude oil from Kazakhstan and operates three offshore loading moorings in the Black Sea. Operations in the area have faced repeated disruptions as attacks connected to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict continue to affect maritime and energy infrastructure.
