MARINO PH has obtained information that some Filipino seafarers are receiving exceptionally high additional compensation for certain high-risk transits. Under one reported arrangement, the Top 4 senior officers receive USD 20,000 per transit, while other officers and crew receive USD 12,500 per transit, on top of their regular salaries.
The arrangement is reportedly being offered by charterers, principals or shipowners whose vessels and cargoes require continued operations through high-risk areas. In some cases, substantial bonuses are reportedly being provided because of the risks involved and the importance of completing the voyage.
These amounts do not apply to all principals, shipowners, vessels, or Filipino seafarers. War-risk and high-risk compensation can differ depending on contractual arrangements, trading areas, vessel operations, and applicable agreements.
MARINO PH is sharing the figures based on information obtained from seafarers and emphasizes that they should not be interpreted as an industry-wide salary or mandatory compensation rate.
