The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is strengthening its partnership with Denmark to expand opportunities, career development, and support programs for Filipino seafarers. The initiative forms part of efforts to improve the competitiveness and welfare of Filipino maritime professionals working aboard international vessels.

Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac met with Danish Ambassador to the Philippines Franz-Michael Mellbin during a courtesy call on September 3, 2026, at the DMW Central Office in Mandaluyong City. The meeting focused on seafarer mobility, continuing education, competency development, career advancement, and welfare programs.

Representatives from Maersk Filipinas Crewing Inc. and the Royal Danish Embassy in Manila also joined the discussions, which highlighted the need for closer coordination among government agencies, shipowners, training institutions, and other maritime stakeholders. The parties also discussed longstanding concerns affecting the maritime sector and ways to develop a more competitive and better-supported Filipino maritime workforce.

The DMW reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare, health, and security of overseas Filipino workers, particularly Filipino seafarers. The engagement with Denmark reflects continuing efforts to strengthen international cooperation and create better career opportunities, training pathways, and support systems for Filipino maritime professionals.
