Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac met with His Excellency Ioannis Pediotis, Ambassador of Greece to the Philippines, on September 7, 2026, at the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Central Office in Mandaluyong City to discuss stronger cooperation on maritime and labor matters.

The meeting focused on protecting the safety and welfare of Filipino seafarers serving aboard Greek vessels, while expanding opportunities for Filipino workers through safe and regular migration pathways. Greece and the DMW also discussed continued coordination on economic support and the digitalization of services for migrant workers.

Both sides emphasized the need for rapid assistance and repatriation support for seafarers whose vessels transit high-risk areas. They also discussed the importance of proper preparation, timely coordination, and safety measures for crews operating in areas affected by security threats and other maritime risks.

The DMW and the Greek Embassy reaffirmed their commitment to working closely to protect the rights, health, welfare, and security of Filipino workers. The cooperation covers both land-based workers and seafarers, with particular attention to ensuring timely government assistance whenever Filipino workers face emergencies overseas.
