Russia launched another large-scale air attack on Ukraine’s Odesa region as continuing strikes around Black Sea ports disrupt commercial shipping and the movement of commodities, including grain. Ukrainian officials reported damage to infrastructure and civilian areas following the latest wave of attacks.

The assault came amid increased pressure on maritime operations in the northwestern Black Sea. Russia’s Defense Ministry has also reported attacks on commercial-type vessels traveling toward Odesa, claiming that the ships were carrying cargo for Ukraine’s armed forces. The military nature of the reported cargo has not been independently confirmed.

Ukraine’s Black Sea ports remain important routes for agricultural and other exports, but repeated attacks on port facilities and vessels have reduced shipping activity. Ukrainian authorities have accused Russia of attempting to restrict the operation of the country’s maritime corridor, while Moscow maintains that it targets infrastructure and transportation assets supporting Ukrainian military operations.

Shipping has also been affected on the Russian side of the Black Sea as Ukraine continues long-range attacks against Russian infrastructure and maritime targets. The continuing exchange of strikes has increased risks for vessels, crews and port operations across parts of the Black Sea, while the security situation remains subject to rapid change.
