Two Azerbaijani seafarers were killed and two others were injured after the vessel TEDY came under drone attack in the Black Sea, according to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The incident occurred near Ukraine’s Odesa region amid continuing military operations in the area.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry identified the fatalities as Aslan Aliyev and Asim Gasimov, while Imran Novruzov and Rauf Aliyev were injured. The two injured seafarers were taken to a hospital in Chornomorsk, Ukraine, for treatment. Azerbaijani authorities said they are coordinating with diplomatic missions and relevant authorities regarding medical care, consular assistance and repatriation arrangements.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense said its forces struck a tug operating near the Odesa port complex, claiming it was accompanying cargo vessels transporting materials for the Ukrainian military. Reports indicate that TEDY was attacked more than once while attempting to proceed toward Constanța, Romania. The circumstances surrounding the attacks and the vessel’s activities remain subject to differing accounts from the parties involved.

Following the deaths, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry renewed its warning for citizens to avoid areas where military operations are underway or where security conditions remain unstable. The ministry specifically advised Azerbaijani citizens against working aboard vessels and other forms of transport operating along routes exposed to active hostilities.
