The National Maritime Polytechnic (NMP) will pilot three practical assessment programs following approval from the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), expanding its services for the competency development and professional advancement of Filipino seafarers.

The assessment programs will cover Management Level for Marine Deck Officers, Officer-In-Charge of a Navigational Watch (OIC-NW), and GMDSS Radio Operators. MARINA granted the approval after conducting a documentary evaluation and inspection of NMP’s facilities and processes.

The pilot program will mark NMP’s first implementation of assessment services since it was accredited as an Assessment Center in 2025. The assessments will be conducted at the NMP Main Office and Training Complex in Tacloban City, giving seafarers an additional option for completing required assessments without having to travel to other maritime centers.

NMP Executive Director Victor Del Rosario said the initiative is an important milestone for the institution as it expands its role from maritime training and research to assessment services. The schedule for the pilot assessments has yet to be finalized, as NMP continues preparations to ensure implementation follows MARINA standards and requirements.
