The Port of Savannah in Georgia, United States, handled 504,015 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in September 2026, its highest container volume recorded for that month. According to the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA), the total increased by 3.7 percent compared with September 2025.
Loaded imports rose by 5.5 percent from a year earlier, leading the growth. GPA attributed the increase to strong consumer spending and an extended peak shipping season, with typhoon-related delays at Asian ports pushing some cargo arrivals into September.
The September figures brought container traffic for the first quarter of GPA’s fiscal year to more than 1.5 million TEUs. This was an increase of 40,560 TEUs, or 2.7 percent, compared with the same period last year. GPA described it as its second-strongest fiscal first quarter, behind fiscal year 2023.
GPA also reported that the $1.6 billion renovation of Savannah’s Ocean Terminal was more than 60 percent complete. The project is expected to increase the terminal’s container handling capacity from 200,000 TEUs to 1.75 million TEUs.
